Changing behavior?
Just something I thought applicable and useful, on the topic "How can we influence/change behaviour?" Its just that this diagrammatic model looked simple and understandable enogh, which i will attempt to recreate here using text @.@
Information ----> Thinking -----> Behaviour [simplified]
It follows then that behaviour is influenced by thinking, and our thinking can only be changed with additional information. Take an example of some 12 year old whose parents can't seem to get them to put their dirty clothes in the washing basket. Nagging won't help, obviously, so one day the parents decide to furnish the child with some new information. "We will only wash clothes that are in the laundry basket". Soon as the dirty clothes start piling up, and those favourite garments remain unwashed, the child will develop a new sense of thinking, and the clothes will end up in the washing basket.
Okay, so maybe that was a nonsense example, but it does strike me that good parenting does involve giving your child information, instead of just nagging, scolding, etc. So everytime you rebuke anyone, it is appropriate to give an explanation as to why and how this particular act is wrong, so instead of illiciting a negative, rebellious response, you would change the person's thinking, and accordingly, their behaviour.
Gee, why am I talking about parenting.. :/ Anyway maybe someone can get something out of this :P
